the workshop on Sunday night and head for Crown Point Indiana for a meeting
with Phillip Strickhorn.

After this ten day small town tour with Gary I was happy to be close to the finish
line. We had twenty one students in the workshop at Waukesha so we were put
to the test by each one as we went through the Monk 101 material. This class
was on the advanced level and handled the four strokes plus a few other shots
thrown in on Saturday. Then on Sunday this group went through the 2-7-2
program to master cue ball speed. Once again, I was able to add some material
as they did such a great job. As all my workshops go, I try to share the material
they can handle so their skill level will advance as we go through the material.
We work with the stance, grip, set up and stroke as we work on the four strokes
of pool. This way, the students makes corrections as the shot requires. On the
second day we go through Cue Ball Speed. This was a great class.

Amanda Saxby brought along her son and then on the second day, she asked
her husband Jim to come for the final day. Barb and Bill showed up on a
motorcycle, asked me what was going on and joined the class. All and all, it was a
nice time.

Mid way through the class I awarded Gary his Monk Masters degree. Many of the
students signed up with him to continue their training. Gary and I have been
working hard for ten straight days and I can honestly say he will be a fine
instructor in the Wisconsin area. You can rely on Gary to help you with your
game. He really worked hard on the material and demonstrated the capacity to
teach this great game. I am very proud of Gary for his hard work and dedication
to the sport. We had over fifty students at our two workshops and hundreds at
the small town bars we visited.

On Sunday, Gary and I, along with Ed had dinner and then I headed south
towards Chicago. It was nice to be riding the highways. Still I was very tired and
Milwaukee preserves their pot holes very well. The bumps and bounces took a
toll on me so I checked into a hotel north of Chicago.

The next day I was back on the bike heading through the windy city. This day
featured some heavy cross winds so I worked hard until I reached the town of
Crown Point Indiana.

Phillip Strickhorn is working on the paper work for the Pool Teams of America
Leagues. He has been working very hard so I wanted to visit with him in hopes
that I could cheer him up. He has just lost his leg and now struggled to get
around. Phillip is a courageous man who will rebound and do well. Right now he
is having a hard time getting use to his handicap.  At one time he was a fine
player in this game. The staff at PTA owes this man a lot for his fine work. He is
also putting together my best selling training manual to The Lesson and plans to
have that ready by the fall season.

I had a nice ride south from Crown Point Indiana. The only real interesting thing
that happened was I pulled up along side a semi and go botched in a group with
a Jaguar behind me and a van in front. I had no where to go and it was not long
before I discovered I was along side a semi hauling hogs. They stink! I rode
along holding my nose until we could bust clear. Of course, I felt bad about the
trip those hogs were taking. By now, they are pork chops or hot dogs on a back
yard grill. It’s a tough world.

I am trying to make it home by Tuesday night. We have the big Boot Camp with
The Monk coming up so the rest and relaxation will do me good.

I managed to ride south for about six hours and still ended up north of
Cincinnati. After a very restless night I continued the next day. About two
hundred miles into my ride I decided to leave the expressway and seek a more
scenic route. The friendly guy at the rest stop warmed me that I was riding smack
dab into a series of violent thunder storms. I wanted to ride across the interior
parts of the Kentucky Mountains and he showed me the radar screen that was
filled with colorful activity. We agreed for me to end my days run in a little town
called Winchester Kentucky just before the Mountain Parkway. And now the
storms have moved in. “bring it on” I say. I am safe and sound in a Best Western.

I may stay here tomorrow as well. I think I will check and see if there is a pool hall
in this town and give them a little surprise. I’ll let you know what I find. I’ll take a
picture of the place for you.

It was time to get on the move.

I could not hold up any longer. The rain was sort of a mist, with dark grey clouds
covering the sky.  I knew the sun was up there somewhere hiding behind this
cover and I had to move on. My trip would take me through the misty mountains
of Kentucky and on down into Tennessee and finally the familiar Blue Ridge
Mountains of North Carolina. I bundled up and braced for the worst as I began
my ascent into the interior parts of Kentucky.

With a hot steaming cup of McDonald's coffee and the cruise control set, I began
the last leg of my journey.  I was sad.  After over ten thousand miles it was going
to end.  So I road along just below the speed limit and settled in.

I was introduced to the sensuous Kentucky rains. They are soft, warm, and often
just misty.  I skirted between the clouds all day long and did not get wet at all.
I had a few periods where it came down but that lasted only a few minutes. Most
of the time, I was alone on the mountain roads passing through a small town
from time to time.  Coal trucks passed me a few times but other than that, I was
by myself in those mountains.  Naturally I began to think of possible abductions
from strange mountain people and I found myself riding more towards the center
of the highway.

Finally I could see the unmistakable image of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They
are beautiful with thick green cover.  I knew my journey was almost ended.
When I came over the mountain and on down towards Old Fort, it began to rain
hard.  I was just a mile away from my home.

The road trip is over now. I spent the day at the hill billy pool hall and now I am
planning to head to South Carolina for the Boot Camp Training with The Monk.
You can follow my students training when you
join Monk Masters University.  We will be together for six full weeks.
Ekkes, a world class player from Germany is joining the training program so I am
going to be busy. I will keep you posted.

Thanks for the ride.
