Lesson 62: Be Free #1

I am almost sorry to give you this assignment. But
you must master this shot without scratching in the
near corner pocket P6. You must be able to shoot
this shot with the instincts that you are not going to
scratch. Once you are aware of the potential for the
scratch, you will not have difficulty with the shot.
Stay with it until you can feel the desired position.
You must perfect your personal hit here. Track line
is relative to your stroke. Do not use English. It is in
the hit.
When I line up this shot I say the following, “One of
us is going to win here. I may scratch and lose, but I
will make the ball.” The game ends right here. In my
experience I scratch about one out of thirty times. I
like those odds. If I worry about the scratch I miss
the shot ten out of ten times. So, be free and make
the shot.

1. Connect to the shot.

2. Land on the cue ball.

3. Set and finish.

4. See the shot, know the stroke and shoot the shot.
MAP
The Punch Stroke: Compare this to a boxer’s jab, flicking the stroke to stop the cue ball dead in its tracks.

The Follow Stroke: The rolling the cue ball along the slate to follow the object ball. There is no dramatic spin as found in a force
follow. The Follow Stroke is soft and smooth.

The Draw Stroke: In this fabulous stroke the snapping through the cue ball imparts dramatic spin.
Actually, there are four distinct draw strokes:
● Follow-Through Draw
● Snap-Back Draw
● Snip-Draw
● Bounce-Back Draw

Sometimes we need to execute one draw stroke over the other to win games. The difference between winning and losing is
found in which draw stroke is used. There are lessons in this book to help with mastering each one.

The Spin Stroke: This is a throwback to the old days of 14.1 pocket billiards. Once again, the difference between winning and
losing comes from the choice of strokes. I have seen situations where the Spin Stroke was the only way to position the cue ball
for the winning shot. It is an important weapon to have in your fine arsenal.

You must take the time to build Myelin in your brain.

You must master the complete PRE SHOT ROUTINE.

You must take action, measure your progress and make adjustments.

Hard work means nothing unless it is featured in specific and deliberate
practice.

Have you ever heard the saying "be the ball?" That is what first class
warriors strive to be. They want to roll across the slate as if they are the cue
ball. And when it comes to the winning shot, they always want the ball. You
will find that winners always want to shoot. They thrive when the game is on
the line.

Four points of concentration you must master.
Point of contact with cue tip and cue ball
Spot to hit on the object ball:
Stroke you will use:
Speed that will help you succeed with the shot.
CUE BALL SPEED

This is a vital book for your billiards library.
You will never reach the top without
command of Cue Ball Speed. In this short
book I focus on a model you can use to
develop control of the cue ball.

This book is worth every penny. Once you
know where the cue ball is going you will
win more games and matches.

Lesson 36: The Ultimate Stroke “2-7-2”

Please repeat after me, “If I ever want to master cue ball speed I must
master the 2-7-2.”

Use 1/2 cue tip left, (running English) to send the cue ball to diamond
#2 on the long rail, diamond #7 on the short rail, and diamond #2 on
the long rail. The cue ball should return to the center of the table.
Master this stroke. It is your personal 2-7-2 stroke. Use it to win
games. Be sure the cue ball is hitting the connecting diamonds. If you
are not connecting the diamonds, your stroke has a flaw in it. The
speed of the hit will have an effect on the track lines.

Wow, here is a chance to build perfect speed and perfect stroke. Once you
use this method I then give you the most popular five shots in both nine
ball and eight ball to shoot with your perfect stroke and perfect speed.

Give this a try and see what kind of an over all score you can posts.
On all five point cards you have the option of going for it three times. You must succeed on the first two tries in order
to qualify for a third attempt. Successful effort gets you 30 pts.

On all cards you are welcome to a second attempt. If you failed the first time you still have the second attempt as
your option. If you fail the first attempt you record 0 in your box. If you fail the second time record - the card value. If
you make the first attempt record that score. If you fail in the second attempt you will lose the card value, thus end
up with 0 points for that attempt.
